HOW IS IT PERFORMED?
A handheld device is used to deliver energy through a metal disposable tip which comes into close contact with the outer most layer of the skin. The energy creates a spark once it comes into contact with the gases (CO2) emitted by the skin layer and delivers an immediate millimeter sized controlled wound. This is repeated hundreds of times in the area of concern and only reaches the outer most layer of your skin which pulls your skin cells closer together. Immediately, the natural healing response is triggered causing overall tightening. Results therefore begin immediately, and continue to yield results all the way up until 8-12 weeks post treatment. It takes 4 full weeks for collagen production cycle to take place. Clients are impressed with knowing the results get better and better with time.
DOES IT HURT?
Everyone’s interpretation of pain varies. A topical anesthetic will be applied to help keep you comfortable. Some clients say it feels similar to a dull rubber band snapping whereas others say they can barely feel anything. I have even had some snoring through the procedure!
HOW LONG IS DOWN-TIME?
It really does depend on what one considers as down-time. Some are quite okay with going out in public immediately whereas others may wish to stay home and avoid crowds. It is natural that you will experience swelling the first few days followed by carbon crust (scab) formation to the tiny millimeter “dots” that are placed in the treatment area. These dots cannot be disturbed and must shed naturally on their own. This will usually occur around days 5-7. After that, the skin will appear light pink, but is closed and well on its way to good healing!
HOW LONG DO I NEED TO AVOID THE SUN?
Anyone with a sunburn or tan must wait a full 8 weeks before treatment to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. Tanned skin is damaged skin- we do not want to apply added trauma to your skin during that time. After the treatment, it is extremely important to avoid the sun for the first week while the important healing phase is occurring. This includes sun exposure on all levels- driving in the car, walking to the mailbox, or sitting too close to a window. All of these scenarios must be taken into account- a hat must be worn! Once the carbon crusts shed off on their own around day 5-7, SPF 60+ must be applied to the area for a minimum of 3 months to avoid hyper-pigmentation. This is because the skin is essentially NEW skin... I tell clients to treat the area like an infant in the sun.
CAN I GET MULTIPLE AREAS DONE IN ONE SESSION?
A single session area of treatment is limited to add up to the size of your hand. Although that may seem like a small size for just one session, your body has to take a lot of energy to properly heal.
For clients requesting large areas such as Full Face or tummy treatment, the sessions must be spaced 2 weeks apart. This is because the upper eyelid and lower eyelid are never to be treated at the same time due to excess swelling. When you receive treatment on your upper eyelid, your lower eyelid will swell as well. For the risk of excessive swelling, upper and lower eyelids will be spaced 2 weeks apart.
Keep in mind, the treatment involves creating controlled and targeted wounds. Your body must be able to properly heal without additional interference. The larger the treated area, the larger the risk of infection. Remember safety first!
For clients requesting multiple large treatment areas (ie., face and neck), it is suggested to wait 2 weeks in between each.
A consultation can be arranged. A non-refundable $50 deposit will secure your requested consultation and will be applied to any future services. *Please see pricing & reservation tab to schedule*
HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
The results last similar to that of invasive surgery! Keep in mind, this procedure does not reverse or stop the actual aging process. Treatment will diminish the current concerns of aging and it is up to you to follow good habits to help your continued aging process.
Factors that contribute to aging include smoking, drinking, drug use, stress, certain foods, caffeine, harsh weather, lack of sunscreen, poor skin care, excess sun exposure or tanning bed use, as well as genetics. Some of these factors are controllable, others are not. It is up to you and only you to protect your investment in yourself!
Fibroblast Skin Treatment FAQ Continued
I HAVE DARK AFRICAN AMERICAN SKIN TYPE WHY CAN’T I HAVE THIS PERFORMED?
Fibroblast skin treatment is not recommended for darker skin types that may be prone to hyperpigmentation. This means the skin can heal darker in the treatment area. Some cases may even heal lighter. Fitzpatrick skin type 5 & 6 are not candidates.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
You may see results after one session, however, every client varies in the amount and severity of skin laxity and skin concern for treatment. Some clients with more pronounced skin laxity may require additional treatments to get full desired effect. Because of this, 3-5 sessions (maximum) may be required in severe cases.
IF WE HAVE TO SPACE OUT THE APPOINTMENT, HOW SOON CAN I HAVE ANOTHER AREA TREATED?
If we are treating different areas (such as cheeks one session and tummy the next session), the sessions can be 2-3 weeks apart. If, however, we are doing additional treatments to one area, you must wait a full 8 weeks of healing to have another treatment to same area.
Keep in mind, full effect of treatment may take up to 8-12 weeks. Clients see results immediately and claim they get better with healing! Also, collagen takes up to 4 weeks to begin its cycle. If at 4 weeks you feel you need another treatment in same area, you will be advised to wait the full 8 weeks. Be patient with your body for optimal results!
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
There is no such thing as a magic treatment or serum you can use and get instant results. Anything that is worth investing in takes time. Results for this treatment will take a full 8 weeks to see final effect (some clients even 12). The reason for this is, it takes 4 weeks after the treatment for collagen and elastin production to even BEGIN! Another 4 weeks is required for full effect of these extremely crucial components in skin tightening and strengthening. Some clients may notice a change within the first week, but expect to be told to wait 8 full weeks before considering the treatment “complete”.
Typical downtime is 5-7 days while swelling and redness occur the first few days followed by carbon crusts (scabs). After the carbon crusts have shed naturally on their own, expect the skin to be pink and visibly “healed”, however, the skin is NOT done healing. The most important part of this process is what is happening underneath the skin for the next remaining weeks. Stay committed, stay patient! Please follow aftercare strictly.
WHY DO I HAVE TO REMOVE MY FALSE EYELASHES FOR EYELID LIFT?
This is an absolute NO go. All clients who wish to have an eyelid procedure MUST remove false eyelashes prior to their arrival to appointment. This is due to the high risk of infection associated with false eyelashes as they carry bacteria (no matter how well you wash them), stick into and irritate the area, and are a hazard during procedure. There will be NO exceptions made. Any client who arrives to appointment with eyelashes still in place will forfeit their deposit and be asked to reschedule. False eyelashes must be off completely until the treated area is healed. This may be 2 weeks.
CAN I BRING A GUEST(S) TO MY APPOINTMENT?
The space is limited to working area and one additional chair. Please be advised of the maximum occupancy. You are permitted one guest, all others will be asked to wait elsewhere. Thank you for understanding.
WILL TOSSING & TURNING IN MY SLEEP MAKE THE SCABS FALL OFF TOO SOON?
Lots of clients are concerned that tossing & turning during sleep will cause the normal scab formations to fall off too soon. *What we DON’T want is intentional picking, itching, exfoliating or removing of the scabs prematurely. Clean sheets are advised during the healing process. Aftercare supplies and instructions will be explained and provided to you at your scheduled appointment.
WHEN CAN I RESUME MY NORMAL CLEANSING AND MOISTURIZING PRODUCTS TO THE TREATMENT AREA?
Keep in mind, you will be given aftercare instructions and supplies to follow for 7-10 days. Once the natural scabbing has shed and the skin is not irritated, you may resume using your normal cleanser/moisturizing routine.
IS SHOWERING OKAY?
Showering is part of eliminating sweat and bacteria buildup from the day/night. Showers are required!
Please avoid strong shower streams directly to the treated area, hot/steamy water, excessive or long shower exposure (this could soften the scabbing prematurely). Always use a clean towel, pat dry, air dry or fan the area until it is completely dry. Ensure any skin folds are dry and not harboring moisture.
WHY IS THE SKIN PINK AFTER THE SCABS COME OFF?
Scabbing is the body’s natural “Band-Aid” in protecting the skin underneath as healing occurs. Once the scabbing has shed naturally on its own, the new skin revealed will initially be pink. The new skin must be protected from sun exposure (SPF 60 for minimum of 3 months). The pinkness could remain for a few days/weeks depending on the rate at which each client heals.
DO YOU PROVIDE AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS AND SUPPLIES?
YES! Each client will get detailed instructions to care for their treatment area as well as cleanser and topical ointment. We go over this together at your appointment.
WILL I NEED A PATCH-TEST BEFORE ACTUAL TREATMENT?
If you have dark African American skin (Fitzpatrick 5 & 6), this treatment will NOT be performed.
If you have Fitzpatrick 4, you will be required to undergo a patch test in your desired treatment area. No exceptions!
If you suspect you may hyper-pigment, you may require a patch test.
If you have a history of keloid scarring (cuts, surgical incisions) this is not an ideal treatment for you.
WHY IS A DEPOSIT REQUIRED TO MAKE A RESERVATION?
Each client’s initial appointment requires a deposit to hold their requested reservation date. This is because 2-3 hour time intervals (or more, depending on how many services are requested) are reserved. Often times, other clients are waiting months for an appointment and it is not fair should another client no-show or late cancel on short notice. The deposit is deducted from the total service amount due at appointment. Any no-shows, late cancellations, or continuous reschedules will forfeit their deposit and be asked to reschedule for another date. Please be considerate of this policy.
ARE YOU OFFERING ANY SPECIALS?
This is an effective treatment that can yield results similar to invasive surgery without the bleeding, bandages, excessive downtime and high risks associated with “going under the knife”. With that, the treatment rates listed are a special in itself and have been packaged for multiple sessions to be included, when compared to surgery for similar results. A plastic surgeon would charge triple (if not more) the amount of this less invasive cosmetic treatment
